Our Future City shortlisted for a prestigious international award!

Our Future City is very excited to have been shortlisted for ‘Participation’ award as part of EUROCITIES Award 2018 held in Edinburgh at the end of November.

EUROCITIES is a network of major European cities and the EUROCITIES annual awards recognise outstanding achievement in the delivery of local activities or practices, which improve the quality of life for citizens.

The EUROCITIES Awards 2018 showcased projects and actions undertaken by cities across Europe to foster ‘Creative Competitive Cities’. Culture and creativity are drivers for both European competitiveness and inclusion, and seen together with EUROCITIES Cities4Europe campaign, they enrich the quality of life of citizens by ensuring their inclusion and prosperity.

Our Future City on behalf of Brighton & Hove was one of nine European Cities to be shortlisted for an award along with Leeds, Frankfurt and Oulu. Our Future City was shortlisted in the participation category but just missed out on winning to the fantastic ‘Chaos Challenge’ from Oulu in Finland.

Council leader Dan Yates said: “Brighton & Hove has an incredibly creative history, and it’s really important that our creative future is secured. That’s why we want to invest in the future and invest in our young people – developing their own creative ideas and their own creative futures.”

Peter Chivers, Head of Brighton & Hove Music & Arts, said: “We focus on developing cultural activities and engagement for children and young people. It’s about putting them at the heart of that and working as a collective, a movement, to support them"
